Statements by Members

Member Statements are an avenue for Members of Parliament to discuss issues that are of concern to them, or their constituents. Member Statements are NOT DEBATABLE. They are nothing more than an opportunity for an individual Member of Parliament to stand up, and say something that will be forever preserved in Hansard.

Remember that if you are referring to any other Member of Parliament, the standard rules of procedure apply.

Statements by Ministers

Ministerial Statements are an avenue for Ministers of the Crown to make important policy announcements, trumpet their own achievements, and otherwise use up Parliament's time to pat themselves on the back. Ministerial Statements ARE DEBATABLE. Members are accorded the opportunity for questions and commentary, which the Minister will reply to. Ministerial Statements are not voted upon. Only Ministers may make Ministerial Statements.

Standard rules of procedure apply.
